In 2023, Michigan has seen its fair share of investigations, and the school is still facing charges.

Because of an alleged incident involving a member of the Wolverines basketball team’s training staff, the university has reportedly opened an investigation into Wolverines head coach Juwan Howard.

Howard and Michigan have not issued a statement regarding the situation.

Howard, a former basketball player for Michigan and the NBA, has been the head coach at his alma mater since 2019. John Beilein, who was leaving Ann Arbor for the NBA, was replaced by Howard, who the Wolverines selected after seven seasons as an assistant coach for the Miami Heat.

“A confrontation between Howard and longtime U-M strength and conditioning coach Jon Sanderson in a team practice late last week is being explored and going through a university review process,” Quinn stated. “This kind of review must be carried out outside of the athletic department per university policy.

“Multiple sources say claims of punches being thrown in the aforementioned altercation are inaccurate.”

Sanderson did not travel with the team to Sunday’s 90-80 Wolverines victory at Iowa. Still, Quinn’s sources claim that he is a part of the program.

Following his incident during a Michigan vs. Wisconsin game last year, Howard is still subject to Michigan’s “zero-tolerance policy”. The head coach of the Wolverines got into a fight with Wisconsin head coach Greg Gard and struck an assistant coach for the Badgers.

Is Juwan Howard going out of state?
The head coach of Michigan’s basketball team is still Howard.

Quinn says there is no truth to the rumors that have been circulating lately regarding the Wolverines possibly firing their head coach in the midst of the ongoing investigation.

This season, Howard has played a more supporting role with the team, but it’s not because his future there is in doubt.

The fifty-year-old coach is recuperating from a September heart surgery. The University of Michigan Health Samuel and Jean Frankel Cardiovascular Center performed an operation on Howard that “resected an aortic aneurysm and repaired Howard’s aortic valve.”

Following the procedure, Howard was expected to fully recover in six to twelve weeks, according to the doctors.

Howard released a statement saying, “I feel so grateful and blessed that this surgery was performed at University of Michigan Health.” “My spouse, Jenine, and our family are grateful for the exceptional treatment we have received. Dr. Eagle, Dr. (Kim) (Himanshu).
