Two players from the practice squad were promoted by the Houston Texans.

The team announced on Saturday that safety Brandon Hill and kicker Matt Ammendola would be available for their Week 14 match against the New York Jets. Security DeAndre Houston-Carson (illness) is still considered questionable and will not travel to New Jersey with the team.

Ammendola, who has filled in for Ka’imi Fairbairn in the last four games while the latter is on injured reserve, is anticipated to start for the Texans this week as their kicker. Over the last four weeks, Ammendola has made six out of nine field goal attempts, including three in Week 13 during the team’s victory over the Denver Broncos.

Ammendola and his opponent this week have previous encounters. He joined the Jets in 2021 and kicked for the team in Weeks 1 through 11. Ammendola attempted 13 out of 19 times while he was in New York. In Week 1, he served as the team’s backup punter as well.

Hill, a Pittsburgh native selected in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft, made his NFL debut in Week 11 but only saw one defensive and six special teams play. He did not log any stats related to defense. Hill is probably going to be Jimmie Ward’s backup free safety in the event that Houston-Carson is declared out.

Houston: Carson has been a member of the Texans for the last five weeks, starting three of them. He was cut on September 30, 2023, after joining the Texans’ practice squad at the start of the season. Houston: On October 31, Carson rejoined the practice squad of the Baltimore Ravens and left for Houston again.
