The Nebraska Cornhuskers have emerged as the new favorite to sign Ohio State Buckeyes starting quarterback Kyle McCord. The Cornhuskers are the favorites to sign McCord via the transfer portal with +250 odds, followed by the Florida State Seminoles (+400) and Texas A&M Aggies (+300). Other teams that could sign the former Ohio State
signal-caller include the Oklahoma Sooners (+700), Miami Hurricanes (+500), and Oregon Ducks (+400). The Maryland Terrapins are the team with the worst odds to add McCord to their roster, ranking last on the list with +2500 odds.
Many at Ohio State were taken aback, including supporters and the media, when McCord suddenly appeared on the transfer portal. The 11-1 Buckeyes’ junior signal-caller had a good year leading the offense, but he was heavily criticized for his mistakes.
Over the course of this year’s 12 games, the native of Mount Laurel, New Jersey, threw for 3,170 yards and 14 touchdowns. Throughout the year, McCord had a number of noteworthy moments, one of which was a game-winning drive in South Bend, Indiana on September 23 against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, who were ranked ninth at the
time. The defeat to the Michigan Wolverines, who were ranked third at the time, in the regular-season finale on November 25 will, nevertheless, remain a sore spot on McCord’s reputation among Ohio State supporters. In the end, McCord threw two interceptions as the Buckeyes lost 30–24.
Even though he made a few mistakes in his first year as a starter, McCord steadily improved, and now that he is searching for better opportunities, he will be highly sought after.
