Last Saturday at Sixfields, Lane’s man-of-the-match performance against Northampton saw him return to his goalscoring ways in spectacular fashion. He scored two goals in a row.

The 22-year-old’s finishes were his first in ten games since he scored three goals in three games back in September.

Although Lane has been playing well for Pompey this season, Mousinho believes that his lack of improved results has been a valid critique.

Going forward, the Blues manager is now expecting more of the same from the £250,000 signing from January.

“I felt Paddy was a constant threat on Saturday,” the man stated. He continued to look like a very, very likely candidate. The truly satisfying aspect, though, was that he added the final touches to his performance, something he hasn’t always done.

When he scored three goals in a row, you realized that Paddy was starting to get better.Though we know he has the ability, he hasn’t demonstrated his quality in those positions in recent games, so it’s likely that he didn’t quite take his eye off it.

We stated that since we are confident in your abilities, we will be asking for a little bit more from you; otherwise, we wouldn’t be bothering. Paddy combined everything against Northampton, maybe with the exception.

Last weekend, Lane, who has drawn interest from teams like West Ham, Stoke, and Brighton, excelled in a role down the left flank. He played like a flying machine. That was a change from his usual operating area of the right flank this term, which allowed Abu Kamara to move to the right, where he has also performed exceptionally well.

Josh Martin was also more impressive at the Pirelli Stadium last week following a more subdued debut against Blackpool, according to Mousinho, who believes that strategy has paid off in the team’s past two victories.

“We play Paddy on the right most of the time,” he continued. After two games in four days, we wanted to rest Josh Martin, and I felt Abu (Kamara) posed a threat on the right at Burton.

“Paddy looked really sharp when he came on against Burton.” His approaching from behind posed a danger. Then, he continued to get the ball and run in behind during the first half. That was quite enjoyable.
