Graham Mertz and the Wisconsin Badgers parted ways following the 2022 season. Mertz felt a change of scenery would be beneficial as he was not finding success in the Badgers offense and completed 72.9% of his 358 passes for 2,903 yards, 20 touchdowns, and just three interceptions in 11 games during his first season with the orange and blue. At Cincinnati, Brown and Freeman played together for two seasons during which time Gino Guidugli, the current Irish quarterbacks coach, also served as the Bearcats’ quarterback coach. Brown and Guidugli collaborated with Luke Fickell for a total of three seasons before Fickell moved the two of them to Wisconsin, with Guidugli attending Notre Dame a few weeks afterward. Freeman was in his first season as the Irish defensive coordinator, so the season without him naturally featured Cincinnati’s 13-0 run to the College Football Playoffs.

From 2008 to 2011, Brown primarily played quarterback for Liberty. He then played receiver for four seasons in the NFL. After serving as a graduate assistant at Delaware and Michigan, he coached the running backs for a year at Liberty.
