Former Ohio State Buckeye quarterback Kyle McCord is being targeted by the Nebraska Cornhuskers as a possible starting quarterback for the 2024 campaign. According to 247 Sports, offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield flew to see the former quarterback. According to reports, Satterfield recently visited with Blake Shapen, a former quarterback for the Baylor Bears.

This year’s historically poor performance by Nebraska’s quarterback room will welcome a new quarterback to Cornhusker nation. Despite criticism from Buckeye supporters, McCord’s 24 passing touchdowns this season would set a school record for the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers are considering former Ohio State Buckeye quarterback Kyle McCord as a potential starting quarterback for the 2024 season. Marcus Satterfield, the offensive coordinator, reportedly flew to see the former quarterback, per 247 Sports. Satterfield reportedly had a visitation with Blake Shapen, a former Baylor Bears quarterback.

If the new Cornhusker coaching staff is unable to find a quarterback this year, their ability to assess talent at the position will be called into question. Last year, they failed to make a bowl game for the first time since 2016 because of poor quarterback play after starting out 5-3. Despite Sims’ propensity for turnover at Georgia Tech, Satterfield was praising the player in a preseason piece published in USA Today’s Cornhusker Wire.

Nebraska’s two other quarterback experiments did not result in a six-win campaign. During the Colorado game, Jeff Sims was initially replaced by Heinrich Haarberg after Sims was involved in four turnovers and suffered an ankle injury. After recording a 0.7 QBR after five passing attempts in a game against Maryland in mid-November, Haarberg was benched. He would go on to complete 49% of his passes during the season.

At the signal-caller position, Chubba Purdy, the younger brother of San Francisco 49ers MVP candidate Brock Purdy, was the best option for the Cornhuskers. Despite starting just two games and finishing one, Chubba Purdy was viewed as a huge improvement by Cornhusker supporters because he only threw one interception in each of those contests.
