The huge Portsmouth boost before their match against Bolton Wanderers following the absence of their top scorer
With Colby Bishop out, the new Australia international will have to lead Pompey’s line, something John Mousinho thinks he demonstrated at Northampton Town.
For Pompey’s upcoming promotion push, Kusini Yengi has demonstrated that he is capable of stepping into Colby Bishop’s shoes.
With Bishop slated to miss time due to injury, Blues manager John Mousinho feels the Australian powerhouse demonstrated his ability to lead his team’s offensive line.
As a result of the club’s top scorer hurting his ankle during the victory at Burton Albion last week, Bishop is anticipated to miss a month. That’s a major setback ahead of Monday’s top-of-the-table match at Fratton Park against Bolton, but Yengi led the line brilliantly in Saturday’s 3-0 victory over Northampton.
That gives Mousinho hope that in the upcoming weeks, the new Socceroos international will lead Pompey in scoring goals.
Mousinho stated: “When Kusini first came on the scene in this country, he scored so many goals in such a short period of time that everyone talks about his goals.” That’s fantastic and all, but we expect much more from him and there’s much more to his game.
“When Colby is in the side, too,” am I saying? Lovely as our goals are, we also want you to take the lead. I do worry a little if you don’t score, but by including others in the game, there will be plenty more opportunities.
‘If you look at Paddy’s goal, he played him and led the line, taking up two center halves.
He is fast, has a high work rate, and poses a unique threat. Aside from the fact that he didn’t reach his goal, which will disappoint him, he put on a really good performance.
Considering that he hasn’t started a single league game for us, that was particularly the case. After going eighteen games without a start, he entered and excelled.
