The Dallas Cowboys could’ve added more firepower to their defense at a position where they certainly could’ve used another pair of hands.

Instead, they watched their most hated rival reinforcing their squad right ahead of their divisional matchup.

He had also met with the Cowboys shortly after being shockingly released by the Indianapolis Colts, and team owner Jerry Jones had affirmed that his team had a legitimate interest in signing him.

Now that that’s no longer the case, Jones said on 105.3 The Fan that he wished him nothing but the best, adding that the Cowboys’ failure to sign him didn’t have anything to do with monetary reasons (via Jon Machota)

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones on @1053thefan on veteran free agent LB Shaq Leonard signing with the Eagles instead of the Cowboys: “We could very easily see him out there against us Sunday. … Certainly on an individual basis wish him the best. There was absolutely never a dollar,…

Jones doubled down on his confidence in the current group of defensive players they had, adding that Leonard simply went to the team where he felt like he had the best chance to win a Super Bowl.

Notably, the Cowboys could’ve used someone to fill in for Leighton Vander Esch, who was recently shut down for the season with a neck injury and whose future in the league has now been put into question because of his injury woes.

Jones added that it wouldn’t be shocking to see an experienced player like Leonard taking the field on Sunday despite not having been there for long, and he knows the kind of impact a player of his caliber can make on any team
