After surprising the Kansas City Chiefs 27-19, the Green Bay Packers are now 6-6. Quarterback Jordan Love completed three touchdown passes without also throwing an interception for the second straight game. He had played four games like that this season.
Christian Watson (who caught two of Love’s touchdown passes) and rookie tight end Ben Sims were the recipients. Love’s first touchdown pass, a one-yard pass to Sims, turned out to be a historic one.
The Packers added Sims as their third rookie tight end to their roster in the offseason. Naturally, Tucker Kraft and Luke Musgrave were selected in the 2023 NFL Draft. The Packers had four tight ends going into the season: Josiah Deguara, Tyler Davis, Kraft, and Musgrave.
However, Davis is out for the season after rupturing his ACL during the preseason. The Minnesota Vikings placed Sims on waivers, and the Packers claimed him after he was injured. Sims was an undrafted free agent who had previously signed with the Vikings.
This year, Deguara has struggled with injuries and subpar performance. He was actually a healthy scratch for this Chiefs victory.
Love’s touchdown passes were caught by rookie tight end Ben Sims and wide receiver Christian Watson. Love’s first touchdown pass to Sims, which was for one yard, proved to be a memorable one.
This was a historic victory. With three rookie tight ends with at least one touchdown catch in a season, the Packers are the first team in the Super Bowl era to accomplish this:

Paradoxically, all three of the rookie tight ends for the Packers have exactly one touchdown reception.
In Green Bay’s 20-3 victory over the Los Angeles Rams, Musgrave caught his. During Thanksgiving, Kraft caught his while playing the Kansas City Chiefs.
