Ferrari had a challenging Formula 1 season, finishing third in the standings despite having high hopes of challenging Red Bull for the championship.
After Ferrari’s “disappointing” season, which saw it drop to second place in the Constructors’ Championship, Charles Leclerc has some reflections.
After a string of challenging seasons, Ferrari returned to the top step in 2022 and went into the year hoping to challenge Red Bull for the championship.
It could not, however, consistently contend with Red Bull, which dominated the field and won 21 of the 22 races that were held.
Although Leclerc finished the season strongly, with two podiums at the last two rounds, the Monegasque driver acknowledged that Ferrari’s overall campaign was disappointing.
“It’s been a disappointing season, to be honest,” Leclerc said to reporters, including RacingNews365.com.
“After last year, we were hoping to try and win the championship this season. However, after the first race, we realized how hard it would be in comparison to Red Bull, who had made significant progress, particularly in terms of race pace.
“We took a different step. It was therefore somewhat disappointing after that.
Positives emerged from Ferrari’s campaign when it won the Singapore Grand Prix, the only event of the year in which Red Bull lost.
Leclerc claimed that there had been advancement from within the Ferrari organization, even though the gap with Red Bull widened between 2022 and the most recent season.
“However, if you only consider this season and ignore last season, I believe we’ve made a lot of progress, which is encouraging and gives me hope for the future,” he remarked.
“But we’ll put in a lot of work over the winter break to close the big gap and win back the Red Bulls.”
“Hopefully, with a car that can win, we’ll return stronger next year.”
