In the wake of Shaq Leonard’s free agency tour, Dallas Cowboys rumors are intensifying. The latest update may not sit well with Philadelphia Eagles fans. According to NFL insider Brian Baldinger of Audacy, Leonard is “leaning” in the direction of the Cowboys.

They require him. Zach Cunningham was lost by them last week. All season long, they have been losing linebackers.

“I’ve heard he’s currently leaning toward the Cowboys.” With this, he’s a little measured. He desires to make the best choice possible. Before Cowboys fans begin celebrating, nothing is official until Leonard actually signs a deal. The good news for the Eagles is that it appears Philly players are still attempting to recruit Leonard.

If it comes down to finances, the Cowboys have more cap space with an estimated $10.8 million remaining, per Spotrac. This is much higher than the $2.6 million that the Eagles have to spend.

Given that Leonard is still being paid from his five-year, $98 million contract with the Colts, it’s likely that this won’t be a factor. Going into this battle for free agency, both teams need a linebacker. The Eagles, with their 10-1 record and recent Super Bowl appearance, do hold the upper hand.

Dallas lost former Pro Bowler Leighton Vander Esch for the season while serious questions remain about his NFL future. Philadelphia is looking for help as Zach Cunningham deals with an injury. CBS Sports’ Josina Anderson reports that the Cowboys still view Leonard as a difference maker even after multiple back surgeries in recent years.
