After being benched several times this season, Mac Jones is no longer the New England Patriots’ primary starting quarterback.

Jones did not play in the second half of the team’s 10-7 loss to the New York Giants on Sunday, capping a frustrating season for both him and his team.

Mac Jones #10 of the New England Patriots looks on prior to a game against the New Orleans Saints at Gillette Stadium on October 08, 2023 in Foxborough, Massachusetts.

When asked if he would rather start over, according to Mike Kadlick, he stated that he is “good right now” and that he still wants to be the quarterback for the Patriots.

Since the early 2000s, New England has become accustomed to winning, so they are now 2-9 on the season. They haven’t had to endure a season as bad as this one in decades.

Despite being one of the greatest NFL coaches of all time, head coach Bill Belichick could be under pressure in his third season without the storied Tom Brady at quarterback.

It’s becoming obvious that Jones isn’t the team’s answer as a signal-caller, even though he had some promise as a rookie in 2021. He hasn’t been able to realize that potential.

During his stint against New York on Sunday, Jones completed 12 of 21 passes for 89 yards, two interceptions, zero touchdowns, and an embarrassing 27.8 passer rating.

After coming in for him in the second half, Bailey Zappe didn’t perform much better. He only managed to complete nine of his fourteen pass attempts, threw one interception of his own, and failed to connect on any touchdown passes.

As of right now, the Patriots are 31st in points per game and 26th in passing touchdowns for the season.
