Sunday’s exciting 14-0 lead for the Las Vegas Raiders was soon spoiled when the Kansas City Chiefs rallied to outscore them 31-3 the remainder of the game. The momentum Antonio Pierce was gaining toward taking over as the team’s full-time coach was also hampered by this setback.

Chargers News: Jerry Tillery is entering a 'put up or shut up' season - Bolts From The BlueInterim head coach Antonio Pierce confirmed the move on Monday, announcing that cornerback Marcus Peters had been released by the Raiders. The day before, Peters had been benched during the Chiefs game. Pierce revealed, “We made the decision to proceed. I had a wonderful talk this morning with (Peters). That will be my last comment.

It’s interesting to note that according to league and team sources, Peters barely escaped being cut earlier in the season. The team will save $1.5 million in incentives by releasing Peters earlier than planned. Despite having played in three Pro Bowls, Peter’s season-long play was lacking, as he only managed 43 total tackles and five passes defensed.

Along with cutting ties with Peters, the Raiders waived safety Roderic Teamer on Monday after he was taken into custody over the weekend on suspicion of DUI and speeding. In reaction to his arrest, Teamer was inactive against the Chiefs even though he was expected to return from injured reserve.

With a disappointing 31-17 loss to the Chiefs at Allegiant Stadium, the Raiders, now with a 5-7 record, are headed into their bye week. With a 2-2 record in his interim role, Antonio Pierce will have a difficult time leading the team through hardship, especially in light of the game’s unraveling in the final 2 1/2 quarters.

Peters, 30, was signed to a $3 million, one-year contract to be a secondary leader. In Week 8 against the Detroit Lions, he did manage to secure an interception return for a touchdown, but otherwise, his performance did not live up to expectations. His tackling struggles, which included a big miss against the Chiefs in the second quarter, cast doubt on his commitment to the game.
