Halfway through the third period of today’s Detroit Red Wings vs. Minnesota Wild game at Little Caesars Arena, a noteworthy incident occurred. Hunter Alex DeBrincat was the target of a heated slew foot from Ryan Hartman of the Wild. Remarkably, the only person sanctioned for his crosscheck retaliation was DeBrincat. Hartman may face consequences for his actions, though, as he has been informed of a disciplinary hearing with the League Department of Player Safety.
The incident happened during the last phase of the game.
Hartman reached out with his right leg, sending DeBrincat flying backward onto the ice. The move clearly unnerved the Red Wings forward, which delayed their comeback. DeBrincat was visibly upset when he eventually stood up and gave Hartman a hard crosscheck in return. The penalty was surprisingly only applied to DeBrincat, which infuriated head coach Derek Lalonde.
Hartman was told by the National Hockey League that he would be facing a hearing for his actions even though he was not penalized during the game.
Hartman is regarded as a repeat offender because he has already served two suspensions in his professional career.
