In the final moments of Fiorentina’s victory, Mike Maignan’s outstanding save would have prevented us from discussing another game in which a corner was given up in a particular manner.

A spare man was waiting at the far post after a corner was aimed toward the near post and flicked on in the 96th minute of Milan vs. Fiorentina, according to MilanNews. The Paris Saint-Germain match at San Siro in the Champions League and the Serie A match between Lecce and Via del Mare are identical.

Thankfully, Mandragora was unable to score this time, but Milan’s set piece problems are still present, so it is by no means a coincidence. For the third consecutive game, to give up the same goal would have been absurd, if not hilarious.

Lecce and Fiorentina had plenty of time to review and correct the goals they had given up in their previous games, especially considering the international break that separated them. Nevertheless, three distinct opponents managed to take advantage of this weakness.

It is only a portion of Milan’s long-standing issue of not knowing how to effectively defend or make dead balls dangerous. Corner kicks, free kicks from the midfield, and free kicks from the wings are all guaranteed.

The opponents end up with a counterattack, taking advantage of the numerous Rossoneri men who have come up; in the worst case, the ball is lost and nothing dangerous is accomplished.

With the exception of a header by Pobega towards the end of the first half, Milan did not pose much of a threat from set pieces, while Fiorentina employed complex tactics and strategies to try and confuse Milan. Pioli and his team need to make improvements in this area.
