Edinburgh’s contract with the capital club does not expire until the end of the season, so the Top 14 side will pay a six-figure release fee.

Kinghorn, 26, has been playing rugby with his hometown club since he graduated from high school. He is about to become a member of one of the top teams in the world, where he will be surrounded by players like Thomas Ramos, Romain Ntamack, and Antoine Dupont.

If all goes according to plan, Kinghorn will play two more games for Edinburgh: the away game against Ulster the following Saturday and the home game against Benetton on Friday. He acknowledged that leaving would be difficult, but said the opportunity was too good to pass up.

According to Kinghorn, making this choice has been extremely difficult (the Edinburgh website). “I have a great deal of loyalty to this club because I have lived here for nine years. It launched my professional rugby career and gave me everything I’ve ever wanted in a career. They seem to have brought out the best in me.

“I believe that joining Toulouse is a good opportunity for me to grow as a person, as well as to advance my career and game. It’s a significant choice, but I believe it to be the best one for me.

It’s going to be a sad day, but I’m really thankful to Edinburgh for seeing this as a fantastic opportunity for me to grow both personally and as a rugby player.
