Deandre Carter, an offensive lineman for Mater Dei and an Auburn commit, received his All-American Bowl jersey earlier today in Santa Ana, California.
Together with defensive back Zabien Brown, running back Nate Frazier, and offensive lineman Brandon Baker, Carter is one of four Monarchs participating in this year’s game.
Carter joins a long list of Mater Dei alumni who have been selected to the All-American Bowl, including players like JT Daniels, Bru McCoy, Amon-Ra St. Brown, and Bryce Young, to mention a few.
Carter remarked, “It’s a great honor, for sure.” I used to watch this game religiously growing up, so I was thrilled to receive the invitation.
“My parents informed me that these were high school students playing on TV when I first saw it when I was in middle school. I thought that was really awesome, and ever since then, I’ve had a lot of chances to perform on television at Mater Dei. I’m excited to have another opportunity at the All-American Bowl.
Carter is most looking forward to competing against elite players from across the nation.
Carter remarked, “I’d like to see the appearance of some of the other top players from around the nation.” Every year, we compete against St. John Bosco and a few other elite teams with talented players, but it will be exciting to play against the best team worldwide.
Additionally, it will be a great opportunity to connect and form new friendships with some of the other guys. It will be beneficial to bond with those guys as well as with some of my high school teammates, guys I played youth ball with, and a few Auburn commits who will be playing.
After losing in league play a few weeks ago, Mater Dei will play league rival St. John Bosco this coming weekend for the second time. When Carter reflects on his Mater Dei career, he said he only has pleasant memories.
Being here was truly a blessing, according to Carter. “I’ve had the chance to compete and show myself by playing with so many amazing players.”
“I have so many wonderful memories from here, and it has been so much fun.” I was able to contribute right away as a freshman and have participated in some amazing games over the years. I consider everything to be a dream and don’t take it for granted.
Carter is scheduled to travel to Auburn this coming weekend to watch the Tigers play Alabama in the Iron Bowl.
Carter remarked, “I can’t wait; I’ve heard it’s a crazy atmosphere for sure.” As this is my first game at Auburn, I’m eager and anticipating a great experience.
“I’m still really happy that I committed to Auburn. Although it was a difficult choice, I felt that I had a great connection with the coaches, which was important to me.
