According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the Pittsburgh Steelers have declared that they plan to activate tight end Pat Freiermuth off the injured reserve list in advance of their game against the Cleveland Browns. For the first time since their Week 4 loss to the Houston Texans, Freiermuth will be back in the starting lineup.

Given that the Steelers offense has struggled with consistency all season, any good news is greatly appreciated. In terms of yards per play, points per game, and yards per game, Pittsburgh is at the bottom of the league. Over the last two weeks, they have seen some increase in offensive development, but primarily on the ground.

The Steelers are better able to communicate their problems and comprehend in-game adjustments since offensive coordinator Matt Canada is on the sidelines instead of in the booth. They have George Pickens and Dionte Johnson, two trustworthy pass catchers, but since he was selected in the 2021 draft, Freiermuth has been their best option in between the numbers.

He has made a career out of getting open in the painted area, making him their best option in the red zone. This season, Freiermuth had eight receptions for 53 yards and two touchdowns before suffering an injury. Although these numbers don’t immediately jump out at you, the Steelers’ offense was stale during the first few weeks of the season and they lacked a certain solution. Now that opposing linebackers are moving forward to stop the run, Freiermuth should see some favorable matchups with an improved offensive line and run game.
