Alfredo Morelos decided to move on and Rangers invested considerable money in three attacking signings.

Sam Lammers, Cyriel Dessers and Danilo all arrived for respective fees of £3.5million, £5.6million and £6million.

Some of that money will be in add-ons and payments down the line, but it’s still around £15million worth of talent brought in.The results so far have been… mixed.Lammers has produced some moments of quality but has largely disappointed and Dessers has yet to prove that he can lead

The positive is that Danilo looks to be finding some momentum, but if Dessers and Lammers can’t kick on, Rangers may look to the market again in 2024.

One of the names Rangers considered ahead of the summer transfer window was Panathinaikos striker Fotis Ioannidis.

Greek reporter Georgios Sideridis reported in February that Rangers had been scouting Ioannidis alongside teammate Dimitrios Kourbelis.

The rumour didn’t exactly set pulses racing; Ioannidis hasn’t exactly been prolific in Greece.

Seven goals in 41 league games for Levadiakos earned Ioannidis a 2020 move to Panathinaikos, where he has now scored 26 goals in 119 appearances.

That’s a record of around one goal in every five games, but he has scored five times in European competition this season.

The 23-year-old hasn’t scored in five Greece caps too, so Rangers fans were hardly gutted when he didn’t arrive at Ibrox over the summer.

Rangers may now see Ioannidis make a big move though amid claims that he could end up in the Bundesliga in 2024.

Kicker report that Stuttgart are eyeing Ioannidis as a potential replacement for red-hot Serhou Guirassy.

Guirassy – a player some fans may remember from the Rangers rumour mill in years gone by – has been in blistering form this season, smashing 15 goals in just nine Bundesliga games.

Stuttgart ultimately expect to lose Guirassy in 2024 and Ioannidis is now emerging as a potential successor.

Eintracht Frankfurt are also understood to be interested, with a move to Germany now in the pipeline for the Panathinaikos ace.

Maybe Rangers will be back in the mix for Ioannidis if Dessers doesn’t turn in more convincing performances, but the ship may have sailed on this one.
