The historical and cultural links that exist between Ireland and Celtic—a team that has long been a favourite among Irish football fans and has had several Irish players don its jersey—are the foundation of this feeling of connection.
As many Irish players have done recently, Scales did not travel to the UK in his teens but instead stayed in Ireland
and played for Shamrock Rovers until shortly before his 23rd birthday. Although his transfer to Celtic was rather quiet, he has since accomplished a great deal.
Scales has started for Celtic on a regular basis and has appeared in 15 straight games after a first season of few appearances and a loan spell at Aberdeen. His place at Celtic has been cemented by this continuous run in the team, which has also made playing for the national team easier.
Scales revealed in an interview with the Irish Independent that he and his family take great pride in seeing him play for Celtic.
Being a player for Celtic is enormous. They are all very proud of me and my family, and I am proud of myself as well.
There’s a strong fan base in Ireland, and there’s a connection there being Irish. It’s fantastic that I am sort of representing Ireland at Celtic. I’m attempting to savour every moment of it because I have no idea how long it will endure.
