Buck Showalter was not selected to be the Los Angeles Angels’ new manager as Ron Washington was hired last week.

However, the former manager of the Mets responded politely to not getting the job. “It’s about time,” Showalter reportedly texted and called Washington, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. You shouldn’t have had to wait that long, as you’ve been waiting for a long time.

With Texas, Washington last succeeded in 2014. He was that guy for the Rangers for seven years, and in 2010 and 2011, he led the team to two World Series appearances.

Washington, 71, began his career as a manager of Class-A Capital City (1993–1994) and as a coach for the Tides (1991–1992, 1995) in the Mets system. He then worked as an A’s coach in Oakland until being hired by the Rangers in 2007.

Because of his relationship with general manager Perry Minasian from their time together with the Rangers, Showalter was taken into consideration for the role.

After the Mets went 75-87 in 2023 and took fourth place in the NL East, Showalter declared last month that he would not be taking over as manager of the team again.
