Gavin Lane, a former Orlando Pirate, maintains that the Sea Robbers’ Soweto Derby victory was largely due to their technical team.

Bucs end Chiefs’ run in the Soweto Derby.

Legend thinks the technical team is winning.

The two Soweto teams aim to reclaim their heyday.

WHAT HAPPENED: On Saturday afternoon at FNB Stadium, the Buccaneers defeated rivals Kaizer Chiefs 1-0.

The Jose Riveiro-led team continued their winning streak after defeating Sekhukhune United in the middle of the week, and they also put an end to their run of defeats against Chiefs in the Premier Soccer League.

According to Lane, the technical teams were the difference between the two Soweto teams that day; Riveiro was well aware of the players’ strengths and gave the Pirates the advantage.

WHAT WAS SAID: “The Orlando Pirates coach has been there for a while and his players understand how he wants them to play,” Lane told KickOff. “At the moment, there is quite a lot of moving and shifting in the Kaizer Chiefs technical team.”

Due to his inexperience with the setup, Cavin Johnson is finding it challenging and will need some extra time to perfect his techniques.

“The fact that the Pirates’ coach is seasoned gave them an advantage.”

THE BIGGER PICTURE: Pirates were knocked out of the Carling Knockout Cup and the CAF Champions League despite their recent run of bad luck.

Conversely, the Chiefs are improving under the direction of new interim coach Cavin Johnson.
