CBS Philadelphia, PA This season, the Philadelphia Eagles have been entertaining on the field.
However, they showcased their skills on the catwalk on Monday night.
After a three-year break, the Big Brothers Big Sisters Independence Fashion Touchdown returned to South Philadelphia.
Big Brothers Big Sisters Independence President Marcus Allen stated, “This is probably our biggest event of the year.”
The fashion portion of the event revolved around a runway show hosted by Boyd’s, which is arguably the best luxury men’s and women’s clothing retailer in the city and supplied the models’ outfits. But, they wanted to give back in a more concrete way as they commemorate their 85th anniversary.
We’re excited to be a part of the event tonight because we want to support the kids who will make this city even better in the future. However, what matters most to us is the mentorship program we’re starting with the kids who are a part of the program because that’s why,” Show-Boyd’s Alex Gushner stated.
The part about football? The 8-1 Eagles, led by running back Boston Scott and cornerbacks Darius Slay and James Bradberry, supplied that.
Brian Westbrook, a former Eagle, was also present.
“It’s my first time doing a fashion show, so it was something new for me, so I was up for it,” Slay stated.

But all of this, the glitz and glamour, the step and repeat, the silent auction? All of this has to do with the children that Big Brothers Big Sisters Independence supports.
“We believe now more than ever it’s time for us to spotlight what kids are going through,” Allen stated. And who better to accomplish that than the Eagles, who are a team of fierce underdogs? We created these activities for kids who are waiting for a big event as part of a program we started called Big Cousins. The money raised this evening will be used specifically to remove those children from the waiting list and find them a meaningful role in life.”
And Monday night’s attendance will all contribute to achieving those objectives.
