Alberta’s Edmonton (AP) – In Kris Knoblauch’s first game as an Oilers coach, Edmonton defeated the New York Islanders 4-1 on Monday night behind goals and three assists from Leon Draisaitl and a goal and an assist from Connor McDavid.

Edmonton also had goals from Zach Hyman and Evander Kane, and Stuart Skinner made 32 saves. After dropping their previous four games, the Oilers won their first game at home this season and their second game in a row overall.

The Islanders’ Mathew Barzal scored, and Ilya Sorokin finished with 28 saves. Five straight for New York, including four in a row during regulation.

After the Oilers’ 3-9-1 start on Sunday, Knoblauch took over for the fired Jay Woodcroft, and it was his first game since.

AP/SEATTLE – Midway through the second period, Mikko Rantanen and Ross Colton each scored a goal, and the Colorado Avalanche defeated the Seattle Kraken 5-1 on Monday night.

The Avalanche also received goals from Valerie Nichuskin, Jonathan Drouin, and Cale Makar. For Colorado, Tomas Tatar and Devon Toews each had two assists, while Nathan MacKinnon had three. In the season series, Colorado won two out of three games, with Alexandar Georgiev recording 18 saves. The road team prevailed each time.

In his 550th game, coach Jared Bednar recorded his 300th victory. He is the most successful coach in franchise history.

After sustaining a lower body injury in the season opener against Vegas on October 10, Brandon Tanev scored his first goal for Seattle. Joey Dacord made 26 saves in total.
