Florida State defeated the Miami Hurricanes for the third time in a row by rallying from a third-quarter deficit. There was no shortage of physicality in the yearly rivalry game between the Seminoles and Hurricanes as they fought for the title of Sunshine State champions.

Late in the fourth quarter, with Miami having a chance to tie the game, true freshman quarterback Emory Williams was hurt while attempting a fourth-down conversion. Tatum Bethune, DJ Lundy, and Jared Verse were among the defenders that Williams collided with as he got closer to the sideline and the first-down marker.

After the play, Williams remained on the ground and looked to be in a lot of pain. The young signal-caller was seen holding his left arm at an awkward angle in the replay. Before being wheeled off the field, Williams had an air cast put on his arm and was surrounded by medical personnel from both teams.

Mario Cristobal, the head coach of Miami, disclosed after the game that Williams had sustained a “serious” injury and needed to be transported to a nearby hospital.

“It was a serious injury, yes,” Cristobal declared following the match. “He’s at the local hospital and we’re waiting on word for him.”

It was a disappointing way to end Williams’ second-season debut. With a series of smart plays, including an 85-yard touchdown pass to Jacolby George in the closing quarter to close the gap to seven points, he kept Miami in the game. He ran five times for -7 yards and finished 8/23 for 175 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions.

Cristobal described it as a “brave” performance from a quarterback who has shown promise as the Hurricanes’ future quarterback.

“Tough, gutsy. Was a little anxious at first, but he soon calmed down and made some impressive throws and daring runs, especially the one where he was hurt,” Cristobal remarked. “He also continued the drive with the scramble where he got the first do

Finally, Tyler Van Dyke, a veteran, took Williams’ place. Shortly after entering the field, he was picked off for the eleventh time in five games by Florida State cornerback Jarrian Jones, who completed the victory.

wn and we tied the game.” Overall, he made some incredible throws to Jacolby and some other crucial throws that you would want to see return, even though statistically speaking it doesn’t exactly look good. Well, it was played.”
