Serhou Guirassy has opened up on his admiration for the Premier League with a £17 million release clause in the contract of the reported Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest target.
Harry Kane moved into pole position for the Bundesliga’s Golden Boot with successive hat-tricks against Darmstadt and Borussia Dortmund. But it’s testament to the remarkable start Serhou Guirassy has also made to the current campaign that it took an injury to the Stuttgart talisman for Kane to finally overtake him at the top of German football’s goalscoring charts.
Reportedly targeted by West Ham, Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest, Fulham and a Tottenham Hotspur side who sold the aforementioned Kane to Bayern Munich over the summer, Guirassy has 14 goals in just eight Bundesliga starts (TEAMtalk).
A superior goals-per-game ratio than Bayern’s £82 million talisman.
Tottenham Hotspur in Serhou Guirassy race
Speaking to The Guardian as he steps up his return from a recent spell on the sidelines, Guirassy has done little to quell the speculation regarding a potential January switch across the Atlantic, even if he is keen to avoid ‘closing the door’ to other clubs in other leagues.
“I cannot hide these things,” Guirassy explains. “Everyone knows the Premier League is one of the most competitive leagues in the world. But, at this time, I don’t close any doors.
“There are some very big teams in Europe, and it’s not focused only on the Premier League.”
Guirassy, The Guardian adds, has a very affordable £17 million release clause in his contract. As such, the former Rennes ace – who first emerged on West Ham’s radar during his time in France – will come far cheaper than some of Europe’s other much-coveted centre-forwards. Victor Boniface, Santiago Gimenez and Gift Orban, to name three.
Harry Kane’s substitute?
“Serhou has been in incredible form lately, as everyone has seen,” says Stuttgart manager Sebastian Hoeness with a smile.
At Tottenham, Guirassy could play a role similar to that of Kane for a team that is winning even without any true number nines.
