It has been suggested that Robbie Neilson’s decision to leave Rangers to become Philippe Clement’s backup came from his decision to move to America.
The former Ibrox youth star signed a contract with the Tampa Bay Rowdies prior to their 2024 USL Championship campaign, and there’s a chance for an unexpected comeback. Hearts fired Neilson earlier this year after the team lost a lead in the race for third, but he was able to secure European group stage football for the team by finishing in third place. Neilson has not been employed since.
He has also led them out of the Championship and back into the Premiership race over the course of two stints. He now relocates to America in search of fresh experiences.
The former Hearts manager refused to accept the offer, and Stephan Van Der Heyden was ultimately named. Beginning in January, Neilson will have the support of Nicky Law, a former Motherwell and Rangers midfielder.
“I’m so grateful for the wonderful opportunity the Rowdies’ ownership has given me to help this club continue its development,” he declared. Here in Tampa Bay, the football setup is simply fantastic. The team has access to excellent training grounds and all the amenities they require to succeed going forward.”
Clement, on the other hand, has made a great start to his life in Glasgow and is still undefeated after defeating Hearts 3-1 to guarantee a spot in the Viaplay Cup final. On Thursday night, he takes on Sparta Prague in the Europa League.
