JACKSONVILLE: They have frequently been close and occasionally very good.

As quarterback Trevor Lawrence sees it, the Jaguars’ offensive performance this season hasn’t been as good as players and coaches anticipate. Until it isn’t, that is the plan.

The NFC West-leading San Francisco 49ers (5-3) will take on the AFC South-leading Jaguars (6-2) on Sunday at 1 p.m. at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville. “You’re hoping every week is that week,” he said on Wednesday afternoon.

The Jaguars, who have triumphed in their previous five games, are ranked 10th in terms of points scored per game (24.1) and 14th in terms of yards per game (341.4). They were 10th in scoring (23.8) and ninth in yards (357.4) in the NFL.

In the majority of games this season, the Jaguars have moved the ball well; however, turnovers at crucial moments frequently result in possession losses. On 62 of the 96 possessions, they have moved or had possession beyond midfield, and 35 of those drives have resulted in points.Wide receiver Christian Kirk stated, “I don’t think it’s a matter of fixing; I think it’s just realigning what we do really well.”

narrow end This week, Evan Engram stated that the team’s red-zone problems and giveaways are related. The team has committed three turnovers inside the 20-yard line of their opponents, including two of those in their most recent game, a Week 8 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

“We have to be better in the red zone in general,” Engram stated. It goes without saying that we want to score more points in the red zone. We are simply not doing the small things correctly. Last week [against the Steelers], I made a mistake there. Down there, we’re just shooting ourselves in the foot.

“It’s things we can influence. It’s comparable to how the season began slowly for us. Small things were putting us in the crosshairs. We get the impression that the red zone is the same—turnovers and poor ball protection. In actuality, the defences are not taking any action to keep us out. We are doing ourselves harm.

It is merely a stepping stone in our offensive journey. It has been a lot.
