just the fifth tight end in Ohio State history to surpass 500 in a season. That might, however, rely on how soon Stover recovers from the knee injury that kept him out of Ohio State’s most recent game against Rutgers.

The Mackey Award’s three finalists will be revealed on November 28. The winner will be revealed on December 8 during ESPN’s College Football Awards programme. Ohio State Buckeyes Live was once again joined on Wednesday by Steve Helwagen of Bucknuts.com. Steve participated in a 60-minute discussion about Ohio State and Big Ten football with Buckeye Huddle host Mark Rogers and panellists Kevin Noon and Tony Gerdeman.

The group discussed the Michigan espionage scandal, Ohio State’s continued dominance in the College Football Playoff rankings, and their expectations for Saturday’s game against Michigan State.

There are many familiar faces for college football fans who watch the NFL on Sundays this fall, since nine rookie quarterbacks have started games this season so far in 2023. Should Tommy DeVito, the undrafted free agent quarterback for the New York Giants, replace the injured Daniel Jones this weekend, that total might rise to an all-time high of ten rookie starters.

This season’s rookie starters included a few who were expected. The days of rookies sitting out an entire season, like Carson Palmer, are long gone. Rather, first-round selections like Bryce Young are usually expected to take over as the starting quarterback right away.

But as you move down the list, it becomes clear that rookie quarterbacks in the NFL are having an exceptionally successful year. Due to injuries, a sizable number of late-round selections are seeing a lot of playing time. While some of these rookies have helped winning teams survive without their starter, others have failed miserably on losing teams with little chance of winning.

Young is the relatively uncommon player who was the best player in his class both at the beginning and the end of the pre-NFL process. Following his redshirt year in 2020 and decision to attend Alabama rather than USC, Young went on to win the Heisman Trophy in 2021, had another excellent season in 2022, and was selected first overall in the NFL Draught in 2023.

Young’s experience in the NFL hasn’t been as easy because he has a weak supporting group around him. Young hasn’t played particularly well either at the same time. Through seven games, Young has completed 63.9% of his passes for 1,375 yards, eight touchdowns, and seven interceptions; Carolina is 1-6.
