When flirting didn’t work, Turner decided to handle things herself. While George was sleeping, she sneaked into his bed and cuddled close to him, giving the impression that she was Bertha. George turned down Turner as soon as he understood he was being duped. Turner was soon sacked as well.
Turner appears to have found another affluent man to seduce and marry after splitting from the Russells, Mr. Winterton. The fact that Turner triumphantly returns to The Gilded Age only serves to highlight the storytelling skills of Oscar and Emmy-winning author Julian Fellowes.
I will tell you the truth. The Turner/George seduction sequence initially made me hate it since I didn’t understand why sex and nudity had suddenly become part of the otherwise G-rated Gilded Age. I assumed Fellowes was giving in to HBO’s sensual image. But looking back, I understand that it was all part of the plan.
