The Detroit Lions’ 2023 season was unquestionably successful in the first half. Without a doubt, Sam LaPorta’s season has officially begun.

I don’t think I had anything like this in mind, even after a really good offseason that made me believe LaPorta may be more of an impact player than the average first-year tight end. If he doesn’t catch a pass for the remainder of the

season, his 434 receiving yards already rank as the 54th-best season for a rookie tight end, which should give you an idea of how exceptional his rookie campaign is. Even one more yardage would propel him to 26th place in NFL history, one spot ahead of Charlie Sanders’ franchise record.
