Athens — Right-hander Joe Jiménez, who was released by the Atlanta Braves on Thursday, signed a new contract worth $26 million for three years, making him another important part of the bullpen.
Jiménez’s salary for the upcoming season is $8 million, and the remaining two years of the cone
ract are $9 million apiece. One percent of his pay will go to the Atlanta Braves Foundation.
Following his trade from the Detroit Tigers last December, the 28-year-old Jiménez was acquired by the Braves, where he was 0-3 with a career-best 3.04 ERA across 50 appearances in his debut season.
Jiménez improved significantly after getting off to a slow start, finishing with a 2.33 ERA and 50 strikeouts in 38 2/3 innings. His lone postseason appearance saw him add an inning without giving up a run.
After playing for the Tigers for six seasons, Jiménez was selected for the 2018 All-Star Game in his first complete season.
