After winning their first two games of the season, the Black and Whites dropped their next ru During a period of the season, it appeared as though they may have a possibility to qualify for the playoffs.
However, they concluded the season poorly and missed the playoffs, as has been the case for the most of their recent campaigns.
The club has taken a number of significant actions to position itself for success in 2024. They have signed players like Franklin Pele and Herman Ese’ese.
However, Adam Pearson recently stated in an interview posted on the team’s website that the team cannot afford three big-name players like some of their competitors.
Even so, they are still running at full capacity: “We will never go below capacity.” If you’re not at-cap, I don’t think you can play in Super League. Since I started in 2012, we have been at-cap.
The distinction lies in the fact that we currently lack three marquee players, while Warrington, possibly Wigan, and Catalan will have three, which will result in a wage disparity.
“But that gap between not having three marquees and having them should be from a team basis closed if you recruit smart, coach smart, and play smart.”
Pearson stated, “Yes, I mean with exemptions as well, homegrown players that type of thing, we’re slightly over £2.1 million,” in reference to adhering to the cap. In 2013, we received £2.1 million from Sky; however, the new
agreement for 2024 is only for £1.3 million, meaning that there will be an £800,000 difference in revenue and losses.
Still, the cap is missing.
It will be interesting to watch what the team can accomplish in 2024 under Tony Smith, who many believe to be the best Super League coach of all time.
