The revelation that Steven Fletcher, a striker, is the most recent player to be sidelined for an extended period of time has delivered Phil Parkinson yet another injury blow.

After joining Wrexham in September, former Scotland international Fletcher has made one start and nine substitute appearances in League Two, scoring two goals. However, the 36-year-old has been dealing with a knee issue and may need surgery.

“Steven has had a problem with his knee and the specialist has decided he needs an operation,” stated the manager of the Reds.

After being here for three or four weeks, he just overextended it. Despite his efforts to continue, it has reached the point where he is unable to do so any longer, necessitating surgery.

 

“We won’t know the extent of the time he is going to be out until the surgeon has performed the operation.”

Parkinson is already missing center-half Eoghan O’Connell (thigh) and wing-back Ryan Barnett (medial ligaments), who will both miss eight weeks of play.

While teammate Aaron Hayden (hamstring) has missed the last three games due to injury, Jordan Tunnicliffe (nerve trouble) was included in the squad for Saturday’s match against Notts County. Tunnicliffe was hurt during the warm-up and did not play in the 2-0 victory.

“Jordan’s is not serious but it is going to keep him out for a few weeks,” Parkinson stated.
