2019 – Washington overcomes Houston 7-2 to force a Game 7 of the World Series, with the visiting club winning for the record sixth time in a row. Stephen Strasburg pitches into the ninth inning after allowing two runs in the first inning, and Anthony Rendon adds five more runs. Two of them occur in the crucial seventh inning on a home run that comes after home plate umpire Sam Holbrook’s contentious interference call, which goes against Washington and prompts manager Dave Martinez to be ejected. In his seven World Series starts, Justin Verlander has now gone 0–6 for Houston, a sad reflection on an otherwise outstanding career.
