Sheffield Incorporated Queens Park Rangers, who face relegation in the Championship on Wednesday, fired manager Gareth Ainsworth after their team lost 2-1 at home to league leaders Leicester City.
The 50-year-old, who joined the London team from Wycombe Wanderers in February, has only won five of his 28 games in command at Loftus Road. Although he managed just two victories in 14 games this season, he helped them escape relegation the previous season. Richard Dobson, Ainsworth’s assistant, has also departed from the group

Following their 2-1 home loss to division leaders Leicester City, Sheffield Incorporated Queens Park Rangers, who will be relegated in the Championship on Wednesday, sacked manager Gareth Ainsworth.
After moving from Wycombe Wanderers to the London squad in February, the 50-year-old has only won five of his 28 games at Loftus Road. Despite his meager 14 game winning streak this season, he was instrumental in saving them from relegation the year before. Ainsworth’s assistant Richard Dobson has also left the company.
Following the most recent significant off-field incident at Hillsborough, former Sheffield Wednesday manager Chris Turner is concerned for the club’s long-term survival. On Friday night, word spread that the English Football League had put the Owls under a registration embargo due to outstanding debts with HM Revenue and Customs.
As a result, Wednesday, who are currently at the bottom of the Championship after losing all 13 of their first-round games, are unable to register any players without first receiving formal permission. An embargo has also been placed on the Owls in previous years, and this latest development coincides with a month after owner Dejphon Chansiri declared he would no longer be investing “additional money” in the team.
Since making his historic declaration, Chansiri, a controversial character among Wednesday supporters, has hired German managerDan ny Röhl and three coaches. Röhl is their third manager since the team was promoted from League One in May of last year; earlier this month, Chansiri parted ways with Xisco Munoz and his backroom crew.
Chansiri has been urged by the Sheffield Wednesday Supporters Trust to shed some light on the club’s financial circumstances. Turner, the former Owls goalie, wrote on X: “An additional embargo! I’m concerned about the club’s future.
Clubs always begin their decline by failing to pay their HMRC invoices. Then snowballs appear. No new players if it
isn’t paid by January. After just three weeks of employment, what must the newly appointed management team be thinking? Something must change.
In anticipation of their historic matchup with relegation opponents Rotherham United tomorrow, Röhl is putting the last touches on their preparations. This will be Röhl’s first home game since taking Munoz’s position. Röhl is attempting to get his first victory as manager following consecutive away losses to Watford and Plymouth Argyle.
