Madison, Wisconsin: After Ohio State’s game against Wisconsin on Saturday at Camp Randall Stadium, head coach Ryan Day had a media conference. Above is the video. For a detailed account of OSU’s 24-10 victory, click this link.
Day made the following insightful remarks at his post-game press conference:
* Regarding TreVeyon Henderson’s performance upon his return following a three-game absence: “I’m not sure what our number was.” He was held off last week. We needed to confirm that he had fully recovered.
“You could just see the difference in his explosiveness and quickness when he’s on the field. He ran hard tonight, in my opinion. Out of the backfield, he is a weapon. Down the sideline, you can see. On the touchdown that we almost missed, we had a linebacker in single-coverage. He ran a very impressive path. We simply couldn’t get along on it. That was a road we took for a long time. That felt like a knife to the chest.
“The effect he has on our offense is evident when he is on the field. It was significant to score that touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
* About overcoming three turnovers and yet winning the game: “The run game was a nice mix to start with. We did also have a few really strong passing plays. That combo seemed appropriate to me. We’re all annoyed that we can’t complete some of those drives. We have to complete them when we enter those plus territories.
“There are several factors involved, and coaching is one of them. You can see the difference when you have Marvin (Harrison Jr.) on the outside and you get a guy like Tre back. We made the decision to extend Emeka (Egbuka) by one week. He was near. I’m quite optimistic that we’ll have him back by next week. His presence has an impact.
“We put on some really hard performances there. We could discuss the defense all night long. However, in the very end, Cade (Stover) and Julian (Fleming) were fighting. When this time of year arrives, you’re covered with bumps and bruises. We changed the line of scrimmage with the offensive line, mobility, and tight ends. It helped a lot to have Tre back to be able to run 160 yards.
* About what it means to having Henderson on the field: “You can do a lot with Tre because he has a great skill set. That’s the one thing about him.” He is among our people who is more competitive. He has a greater desire to be outside than everyone else, and you can see it in him when he’s there.
“Even towards the finish, he was persevering because he was a little tired, having not played a game in several weeks. Along with the catches and (running) a few routes, he hadn’t had many carries in a while. He handled it well, in my opinion. When he is charging about, it is evident how much of a weapon he is. Hopefully, we can continue doing those things and have another fantastic practice week.
