Mohamed Ibrahim, a rookie running back, was placed on the practice squad/injured reserve by the Detroit Lions. During a kick return in the third quarter against the Baltimore Ravens, Ibrahim sustained a hip injury. After the game, he needed emergency surgery because he dislocated his hip.

The Lions already have a seriously injured tandem at running back. This season, starting running back David Montgomery has missed two games. Montgomery sustained a thigh injury in Week 2’s loss to Seattle. Against Atlanta in Week 3, he was absent. With a thigh injury, Montgomery left the Week 6 game against Tampa Bay and did not play in Week 7 against Baltimore. He is doubtful for Monday’s Detroit vs. Las Vegas contest.

Jahmyr Gibbs, a rookie running back, has also been sidelined by an injury. Due to a hamstring injury, Jahmyr was unable to play in Weeks 5 against Carolina and 6 against Tampa Bay. When he returned, he played most of the snaps for Baltimore.

Mo Ibrahim chose the Minnesota Golden Gophers over Kentucky, Iowa, Temple, and Towson in his 2017 commitment. Ibrahim sat out the first year of his career.
In his redshirt freshman season, he emerged as the primary back and ran for 1,160 yards on 202 runs with nine touchdowns in ten games. In the Iron Quick Lane Bowl against Georgia Tech, he ran for 224 yards and two scores, earning the MVP award.

In his sophomore year, Ibrahim had an ankle injury. He was limited against Purdue, skipped the Illinois game, and missed the Georgia Southern game. He gained 604 yards on 114 carries and seven touchdowns by the end of the season.

During his junior season, AP named Ibrahim to the third-team All-American, the Ameche-Dayne Running Back of the Year, and the All-Big Ten. In seven COVID games, he amassed 1,076 yards on 201 carries and 15 touchdowns.

Against Ohio State in Minnesota’s home opener, Ibrahim tore his Achilles tendon. Before getting hurt in the third quarter, he had two touchdowns and 163 yards of rushing on 30 carries. Ibrahim chose to return for his final season of eligibility despite missing the remainder of it.

Ibrahim’s Achilles rupture healed completely. He was sidelined due to an ankle injury during the Purdue game. With 320 carries, he gained 1,665 yards of yardage and 20 touchdowns. Ibrahim registered for the NFL Draft in 2023.

Mo Ibrahim was not selected in the draft of 2023. Many teams were hesitant to choose him due to his history of injuries. He was an undrafted free agent when signed by Detroit.

Ibrahim started training camp strong. In the first preseason game, he was hurt. On August 20, 2023, Detroit placed him on injured reserve after waiving/injuring him. On August 26, they granted him discharge after settling his injuries.

On October 17, Detroit added him to the practice squad. In the game against the Baltimore Ravens, they promoted him off the practice squad.

We’re praying Mohamed Ibrahim heals from his wounds soon. He has demonstrated in the past that he is capable of recovering from a severe injury.
