While there are many people to blame for the terrible campaign, many supporters would point the finger at Dejphon Chansiri as the main culprit.
The Owls owner did not do enough to persuade Darren Moore to stay on after promotion, and he made a very bad choice by turning to Xisco Munoz.
You can see why the Wednesday supporters have lost patience with Chansiri when you consider his odd utterances and high ticket costs.
Sheffield Wednesday’s new era will be led by Danny Rohl.
Even if Chansiri deserves to be criticized, he deserves praise for his most recent decision to hire Danny Rohl and, more importantly, for assembling a capable backroom staff to assist the inexperienced boss.
The choice to hire Chris Powell as an assistant is one that may prove to be a wise move, in particular.
Given his inexperience as a starting quarterback, we don’t know much about Rohl, but the fact that he has worked with Southampton, Leipzig, Bayern Munich, and Germany indicates his approach to the game.
He will be someone who promotes quick, dynamic play and who inspires players to press hard and recover the ball.
The Wednesday team Rohl inherits will not be able to play as he would like, so it’s easier said than done. This nomination is exceedingly problematic because of that as well as his lack of expertise at this level.
However, Powell can be of assistance here.
The 54-year-old played more than 750 times in English football and has managed Charlton, Huddersfield, and served as an England coach, among other organizations.
To put it simply, he has a plethora of information about the game of football in this nation and has taught athletes at many different levels.
Rohl will benefit greatly from this since he can rely on Powell to help him grasp what is required to implement his strategy in the Championship.
It’s important to note that Powell wasn’t chosen at random to work with Rohl because the German has talked about getting along with him ever since they crossed paths while playing for their respective national teams.
It is clear that they believe they can establish a solid working connection, and their main concern is how to get their ideas to the team as rapidly as possible.
Whether Wednesday succeeds or fails, it appears that Chansiri has at last realized how crucial it is to view this appointment in the long run.
Rohl is under pressure to perform, but it always takes a strong coaching staff to succeed, and he will be happy that Chansiri has let him bring his own men in.
The backroom staff now has a solid balance thanks to Powell’s recruitment to go along with Sascha Lense, and they only need some time and encouragement to improve this terrible Sheffield Wednesday team.
