NJ’s EAST RUTHERFORD — The Washington Commanders’ season is in danger of ending after a promising start that included victories against Arizona and Denver. Since then, they have lost four of their last five games.

It was tough to accept the most recent loss. The offensively challenged Giants defeated Ron Rivera’s side 14-7 on Sunday in a contest that ended New York’s four-game losing streak.

The Commanders had a chance to prevail in this one. They were playing a squad that had gone more than three games without scoring an offensive touchdown. The Giants averaged 11.8 points per game, which was the lowest in the league.

So what took place? New York’s first two offensive first-half touchdowns of the season were thrown by backup Tyrod Taylor in the second quarter, and it was enough to defeat the Commanders (3-4) thanks to a strong defensive effort from the Giants.

Sam Howell, the quarterback for Washington, stated of the game, which his team should have won because they were the superior side: “We didn’t play that way today.” Howell completed 22 of his 42 passes for 249 yards.

Sterling Shepard of the Giants returned a punt early in the second half, sparking a 21-yard drive that ended with a score because Washington’s offense was so awful (it went 1-for-15 on third down). Following Dyami Brown’s recovery, Brian Robinson Jr. scored six plays later on a 4-yard rush.

To continue the supposed drive, Washington needed to convert a fourth-and-1.

Ron Rivera, the commanders’ coach, would not admit that the season was waning.
To me, more than anything else, it’s all about how you recover, he added. “However, there are still 10 games left, so anything can happen. Take everything one at a time, and don’t lose sight of your goal. We’ll fix these issues. There are numerous problems that we can fix.

The Commanders had surrendered 34 sacks going into the game, and the Giants added six more and 12 quarterback hits.

Terry McLaurin, a wide receiver for Washington who had all six of his receptions for 90 yards in the second half, said, “We didn’t really execute like we needed to, especially in the first half. We didn’t really have many solutions for that, and you can’t let a team blitz your face off. We prepared, but we didn’t carry it out as well as we had hoped to this week.

With 7:46 remaining, Daron Payne recovered Saquon Barkley’s fumble at the Washington 8 to give the Commanders one final opportunity.

“A ball that I catch nine out of 10 times,” Dotson said. “Didn’t come up with it. I’m going to let it hurt. I’m going to feel this one, especially in a crucial moment in the game like that. I’m going to learn from it and not make that mistake again.”

The loss dropped the Commanders to 0-2 in the NFC East, and they have a home game next Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles, who beat them 34-31 earlier.

Dotson described it as “a ball that I catch nine out of ten times.” “I didn’t think of it. I’ll allow it to hurt. This one will affect me, especially at such a pivotal time in the game. I’ll take what I’ve learned from it and avoid doing that mistake again.

As a result of the defeat, the Commanders are now 0-2 in the NFC East. Next Sunday, they will host the Philadelphia Eagles, who previously defeated them 34-31.
