The 24-year-old just moved to Leeds last summer in a transfer from RB Leipzig that was thought to have cost the team roughly £20 million. Adams committed to Elland Road for five years, through the summer of 2027.

The defensive midfielder has played 75 Bundesliga games in addition to another 18 in the UEFA Champions League and Europa League, giving him significant experience at the highest level. Adams has 36 caps for the United States.

Last season, he stood out at the heart of Leeds’ midfield, playing 26 times before a hamstring injury put an end to his campaign in February. Surgery was necessary to treat the damage and aid in recovery.

However, the Whites would probably have a difficult time keeping his services in the second division given his reputation and lineage.

The midfielder attracted a lot of interest, with The Athletic reporting that Aston Villa was “having a look” at him during the transfer window and The Daily Mail reporting that Adams had been wanted by Nottingham Forest this summer.

Late in the window, Chelsea was the team with the greatest interest. The 24-year-old was set to be signed by the Blues earlier in the transfer window, but the club backed out of the agreement extremely late and chose Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia instead.

When Bournemouth heard that the transaction had gone through, they were interested and on August 20th, they finalised a deal for a sum of about £23 million plus add-ons.

He was forced to miss practically all of the Whites’ preseason due to a hamstring injury, but Bournemouth nonetheless signed him, and he passed his medical.

Even in the 2-0 victory over Stoke City in the third round of the EFL Cup, he came off the bench and played for 20 minutes.

Adams, meanwhile, has yet to play a single minute of Premier League football this season and has been absent from every Bournemouth game that has been played since joining the team.

For the foreseeable future, the 24-year-old won’t be participating in any action either. Romano disclosed that his most recent procedure did not go as well as anticipated, putting him out until February 2024.

Any negative feelings towards Adams and Bournemouth have, of course, mostly disappeared in the wake of this revelation. Leeds sold a player who was prone to injuries and instead added many midfielders.

The performances of new addition Ethan Ampadu, who is capable of the ball-winning that Adams is famed for, have also helped to lessen the pain of losing Adams since they eliminated the necessity for the two to create a midfield partnership in Farke’s double-pivot.

According to Phil Hay of The Athletic, the Wales international signed a four-year contract at Elland Road and paid an initial signing bonus of about £7 million. Since his arrival, he has also been perhaps the greatest midfielder in the division.

He may have outperformed expectations, and his efforts in defensive midfield, where he intercepts passes from the goalkeeper and centre backs, have won him accolades from the crowd. He has also swiftly established himself as a fan favourite.

Adams was easily replaced by him, and he also contributed far more with the ball. Ampadu has established himself as a top-notch defensive midfielder who can withstand pressure, making him an impending Premier League player. Ampadu was considerably less expensive than Adams.

Along with acquiring Ampadu, Leeds also acquired Ilia Gruev and Glen Kamara for less than what Tyler Adams cost Bournemouth. He wasn’t the only midfielder to enter Elland Road. After the sale, Leeds improved as a team and didn’t lack for him in any way.
