Less than two weeks remain until the NFL trade deadline, sending all 32 clubs into a frenzy as they try to decide whether to purchase or sell before October 31. The Washington Commanders are among those who have a number of young players with expiring contracts, such as Chase Young and Montez Sweat.
The Commanders have been unable to come to an agreement on a new contract worth for the two exceptional edge rushers despite the fact that both players were former first-round choices for separate reasons. Due to the uncertainty surrounding both players, teams eager to improve their pass rush have been actively speculating about trades.
But according to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Commanders actually contributed to some of these rumours by picking up the phone and gauging trade interest in both Young and Sweat in an effort to see what offers would be available.
According to Russini’s claim, the Commanders are waiting and seeing over the next two weeks since they know the results of their next two games will determine whether they sell off their extra pieces or try to make the playoffs.

Even though it’s impossible to predict the Commanders’ motivations, Russini has a hunch that either Young or Sweat will be moved before October 31. However, only if Washington is able to locate a good offer. That hasn’t happened yet, unfortunately.
Sweat has the most sacks for the Commanders this year with 4.5, while Young is just behind him with 3. For a Washington squad that ranks sixth in sacks per game entering Week 7, the two have 7.5 of the club’s 19 sacks.
