The majority of our readers are aware of the fees that must be paid when a player under the age of 24 switches clubs. If the old team offered and rejected a deal, then so. A fee must be paid if the player wishes to exit the game.

In most cases, that is soon established, but Josh Key hasn’t had that happen. Football, like it does with many aspects of the game, has made sports law even more complex, despite efforts to guarantee that clubs are safeguarded when losing their players under the ‘Bosman’ judgement.

Swansea City has a problem with this delay. Josh Key has been a valuable asset to the Swans this season thus far; when the season as it stands right now is examined, he may emerge as the standout player. He has improved the defence on both sides and is now starting to contribute with goals and assists.

The player should be judged as “he was” when he joined Swansea City, but that isn’t always the case, we’re informed. Whatever the cause of the delay, it won’t be favourable to the Swans. There is also another mechanism to take into account. Josh Key has played for clubs between the ages of 12 and 23; each club receives 5% of the money.

There is an issue with this delay for Swansea City. Josh Key has been an in form asset to the Swans this season to date, he could be the stand out player when the season as it is today is analysed. He has added quality to the defence on both sides and has now begun to chip in with assists and goals.

The player should be assessed as ‘he was’ when he joined Swansea City, however we are told that is rarely the case. Whatever the reasons for the delay it won’t go in the Swans favour. Plus there is another mechanism to consider. Every club Josh Key has played for between the age of twelve and twenty three gets five percent of the fee as well. Torquay United will benefit here. That will be most welcome as they now play in the National League South

In Key’s instance, the table cited by FIFA gives a minimum of €340,000 plus any further solidarity payments. Due to compliance with EU law, the statistics are in euros. FIFA creates a football arbitration chamber to judge these payments. That hasn’t happened yet, or the Exeter or Swans are unhappy with the financial terms. If so, the arbitration for sports is the last resort for resolving disputes.

Both the Southampton compensation for Russell Martin and his staff leaving the Swans (based on a different computation) and the cost for Josh Key to join the Swans from Exeter City have not yet been determined. Swansea City FC is keeping quiet about why that is. Swansea supporters’ major concern is that Key is in good form and performing at or even above Championship level. The outcome of this drawn-out procedure is that.
