According to AFC Wimbledon boss Johnnie Jackson, a recent Sheffield Wednesday choice has him fired up. The Owls’ last-week decision to replace Xisco Munoz with Danny Rohl has generated considerable curiosity.

In 11 Championship games this season, Wednesday have failed to win, earning just three points in 2023–24. Given that Rohl is entering management for the first time, he has a significant hurdle.

Jackson is having a solid season leading Wimbledon. They are currently in eighth place in their division and will be hoping to compete in the postseason this year.

This week’s episode of “What the EFL?! Podcast” discussed Wednesday. Although he insists that things can’t possible get much worse, he has praised the Owls for choosing to hire Rohl.

He has a big task on his hands, according to what I’ve seen thus far of Sheffield Wednesday and that league, said Jackson. When it comes to ascending the table, they have significant obstacles. He will join a team that just cannot get much worse.

“I think it’s quite exciting; I love to see young managers get opportunities so I think it’s an exciting one for Sheffield Wednesday but it comes with the unknown that he has no managerial record to look back on,” the author said.

Many Wednesday supporters wanted Neil Warnock to take over and try to turn around the team’s woes. Thank goodness Dejphon Chansiri ignored those requests and chose Rohl instead.

 

Now that the German manager is in charge, Wednesday have a talented young manager who wants to make a statement. He want to establish himself at Hillsborough and take the Owls out of last place.

As Jackson explains, things can’t possible get much worse, and Young Managers Need to Start Somewhere. At the weekend’s match against Watford, Rohl will take control for the first time, and it will be interesting to observe how the team is arranged.
