Following his selection as the Championship Player of the Month for September, Jack Clarke has paid gratitude to his Sunderland teammates. Clarke has had a strong start to the season, scoring six goals in five games to win the accolade.

The former Tottenham teenager, who helped his club win four of their five games in the month, including impressive triumphs over promotion contenders Southampton and Blackburn Rovers, was eager to point out the contributions of his teammates. Clarke, 22, notched three consecutive victories, but claims that his honor demonstrates the team’s success.

It feels great, he remarked. “Of course I’m happy to win it, but for me it’s more of a testament to how well the team performed in September than it is to just me,” she said. I was simply the target of numerous moves. We had a successful month, and we’ll build on that as we move into the following two.

“I liked Blackburn away. I think we didn’t play at our best that night, but we still won against a solid club. We utilized it as a spur to move forward and will continue to do so because it might mark the turning point for the month.

Clarke has scored seven goals so far this season, just four fewer than the 11 he scored all of last year. He also gave an explanation of why he believes he has been so successful this season in front of goal.

“I’m not sure really – the freedom the manager gives me and the understanding we’ve got as a group, where the people are going to be at the right time, and taking my chances,” he said.

We added a lot of talented players, and we’re still working to integrate them into our style of play. They will only aid us, and that is what we are anticipating from them.

“We’ve had a good start, and we’ll build on that. The games will only grow harder, so we must maintain our fitness and persevere. We will simply keep going and see where we end up.

“Jack Clarke continued his dazzling form in September, scoring six goals in five games on a run that saw Sunderland climb into the play-off positions,” EFL analyst Don Goodman said after naming Clarke the player of the month on Sky Sports. He did so elegantly as well, displaying lovely footwork and close control in his strikes against Sheffield Wednesday and Blackburn.

The youthful winger who won Sunderland’s season-long goal award last year already has a few competitors for the honor the following year.
