Aaron Jones was conspicuous by his absence from the Green Bay Packers’ 17-13 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday night. The Pro Bowl running back played against the Detroit Lions in Week 4, but he had an injury setback before Monday’s game, causing him to sit out.

Green Bay is eager to reclaim their star running back ahead of their next game against the Denver Broncos.

On Tuesday, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur talked with media and was questioned about Jones’ status for the Broncos game. While the senior referee remained noncommittal, it is evident that he is optimistic:

“I sure as hell hope so,” LaFleur said of Jones’ availability against the Broncos.

While Jones’ availability is far from confirmed, the fact that he will have over two weeks to heal from his knock speaks well for Jones’ prospects of suiting up against the Broncos on October 22.

Green Bay has a bye week in Week 6, which should allow Jones to heal from his injury. In fact, if he is unable to face the Broncos, there may be cause for concern.

Jones missed two straight games after suffering a hamstring injury in Green Bay’s season opener against the Chicago Bears. He played against the Lions again, but his hamstring flared up again over the weekend. As a result, the Packers decided to be cautious with their top running back and rest him against the Raiders.

Jones was “desperate” to play versus Las Vegas, according to LaFleur, but he just didn’t get the go-ahead from the medical team. LaFleur stated that the club determined it was in Jones’ “best interest” to miss Monday’s game.
