On Saturday in Athens, the No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs thrashed No. 20 Kentucky in a 51-13 thrashing, and standout tight end Brock Bowers had yet another great day. The junior, who stands 6 feet 4 inches tall and weighs 240 pounds, caught seven of nine catches for 132 yards and one score, which came on a 21-yard throw down the seam from Carson Beck in the third quarter.
For the 10th time in his career, Bowers concluded a game with at least 100 receiving yards and a touchdown. This tight end has played in the most of these types of games this century, according to CBS Sports analysis.
He tied Ladarius Green of Louisiana who had the longest such run by a tight end this century with his third straight game of at least 100 receiving yards and one score.
In response to a question about the streak following the game, Bowers replied, “I mean, I can’t really attribute much to that.” “Carson hands me the ball, and I only try to make the best play I can. We simply need to put Vanderbilt at the forefront of our minds for the upcoming week as we prepare for the next couple of games.
With his 24th career touchdown catch, Bowers passed A.J. Green for second place in programme history in terms of touchdown catches. He is now six short of Terrence Edwards’ current school record of 30, which stands at 30.
Bowers won the inaugural John Mackey Award in the history of the programme last year after leading the Bulldogs in every receiving category with 63 receptions for 942 yards and seven touchdowns. He also earned first-team All-America honours. After a successful true freshman season in which he caught 56 receptions for 882 yards and a school-record 13 touchdowns en way to second-team All-America honours, he went on to do that.
Bowers, though, is on track to post career highs in both receptions and receiving yards by the end of the regular season after accumulating 37 catches for 545 yards and four touchdowns through six games this year. He’s undeniably putting himself in position to be remembered as the greatest tight end in college football history, as Chris Hummer of 247Sports said last week. Bowers is now Blake Brockermeyer’s No. 2 overall prospect for the 2024 NFL Draught, according to 247Sports.
Bowers was the second-ranked tight end and No. 59 overall prospect in the USA for the 2021 recruiting cycle. He was a former four-star recruit out of Napa (Calif.) High School. He was also California’s third-best player.
No. 1 David Sander Jr., 247Sports’ top prospect, was back on campus for Georgia’s decisive 51-13 win over previously unbeaten 20th-ranked Kentucky on Saturday. The 270-pound, 6-foot-6 Sanders is not new to UGA.
He came for the victory against Tennessee in the autumn of last year and came back once more in the spring and summer.
Ryan Williams, a five-star recruit from Saraland High School in Alabama and the best receiver according to 247Sports’ 2025 prospect rankings, was back in Athens on Saturday to see top-ranked Georgia upset No. 20 Kentucky, which had previously gone undefeated, 51-13. The Bulldogs’ day of passing for 435 yards was undoubtedly successful as they continue to attempt to convince Williams, an Alabama recruit, that he would be better off playing between the hedges.
Williams told 247Sports, “It was a very exciting weekend with the family, staff, and other commits.”
