Emi Buendia was one of several Aston Villa players who were really impressed by Pau Torres during yesterday’s match against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
As soon as the Spanish defender scored his first league goal for the team against one of the team’s major opponents, he turned to social media.
Aston Villa has had a great start to the season and is now in fifth place heading into the second international break of the year.
Despite some inconsistency, the campaign’s highlights thus far have been big victories over Brighton and Chelsea.
Additionally, they are on course to advance from their group in the Europa Conference League, giving the team a genuine chance to take home some hardware.
They might be disappointed that they couldn’t defeat Wolves and get all three points, though.
Hwang Hee-chan gave them the lead, but Pau Torres quickly pulled them even.
Emi Buendia, an injured star for Villa, was happy for Torres as the 26-year-old started making an impact for his new team.
Torres has excelled since leaving Villarreal for £33 million, playing for a manager who is well-versed in his style of play.
Buendia was ecstatic for Torres following the opening Villa goal.
After the game, Torres wrote on Instagram: “We tried to the finish, but only made +1. I’m still really proud of the squad and the supporters that came out today.
“I’m delighted with my first goal for this outstanding squad!
“Now it’s time for the national team; we’ll return stronger; see you at Villa Park!”
Torres’ effort from yesterday was praised by Emi Martinez and Alex Moreno, while Lucas Digne believed he was brilliant.
Emi Buendia only answered, “Vamossss,” while Diego Carlos replied, “Amazing bro!”
Ezri Konsa, a defensive comrade, has acknowledged that this season, Torres has truly impressed him.
Having previously handled the 26-year-old and knowing just how good he can play, Unai Emery has high hopes for him.
Buendia might be forced to watch from the sidelines after suffering a catastrophic injury, but his previous efforts for Aston Villa and the fact that Torres’ goal was well-deserved will give him hope.
After Ollie Watkins struck the post in the dying seconds, they could be wondering what might have been.
Emery will be delighted with how the campaign has started, but avoiding loss was the most crucial factor.
