Conflict between ex-Rhinos and Castleford The Gold Coast Titans, led by former Leeds loose-forward Georgia Hale, are up next in the Newcastle Knights’ fight to defend their championship. Georgia Roche is a part of their team.

The first Woman of Steel was Batley, England, native Roche, who played for Tigers in 2018. She signed with Leeds before of the 2022 season, but Newcastle snatched her up earlier this year on a five-year deal.

Hale, who represented New Zealand in the World Cup final the previous year, started this season playing four games with the Rhinos before switching to the fully professional NRLW.

Another ex-Leeds star, full-back Fran Goldthorp, was named North Queensland Cowboys’ rookie of the year at the end of her first season in the NRLW.

Next weekend, the Rhinos will play in their own Grand Final at York Valkyrie, but coach Lois Forsell will be closely monitoring the situation in Australia.

Both Georgias are excellent athletes, according to Forsell. “It’s encouraging to see them in a final, and it’s unfortunate they can’t both win it, but hopefully it will be an exciting match and they both put on a wonderful show. We’ll be sending our warmest wishes to them.

At the conclusion of her debut season in the NRLW, full-back Fran Goldthorp, another former star of Leeds, was named the North Queensland Cowboys’ rookie of the year.
She was signed by the Cowboys after performing admirably for England in the World Cup in the fall of last year. She won Super League Grand Finals with Rhinos in 2019 and 2022.

After captain and former Woman of Steel Courtney Winfield-Hill resigned at the end of last year, Rhinos lost three of its top players. Despite this setback, Forsell insisted: “I have been getting up with them all regularly and it is good to hear how much they are enjoying it.

“It’s encouraging to see that they have represented the English game well over there, and we are happy for them to have done so.

They all made a brave decision, and we wish them the best of luck. They’ve had a fantastic year, and we can’t wait to catch up with them in the off-season.

“Fran is out due to an elbow injury that ended her season, but Georgia Roche will be traveling there for the internationals. Being with them will be pleasant.

Due to Roche and Goldthorp’s performance this season, Australian clubs might be persuaded to consider additional English-based players.

Forsell believes that “our loss is the girls’ gain” despite the fact that losing players to Australia would weaken Super League, which is still primarily an amateur tournament.

She declared. “We want to help them so that they can achieve their goals in rugby. At this time, we are unable to offer them the chance to settle down and build a profession out of it.

They already have a career, which is fantastic for them. Although it’s bad for us individually and as a team, we must figure out a means to catch up.

“That’s our responsibility; the females shouldn’t be left out as a result. Brilliant if that is what they want to do.

“Not all players will be contacted, and it may not fit everyone. It is a difficult decision, but given how much Fran and Georgia have benefited from it and thrived, it is ultimately beneficial for them personally.
