The Spanish manager of the Owls oversaw a disastrous run of 12 competitive games without a victory.

The club’s under-21 manager Neil Thompson will take over as caretaker manager for this weekend’s match, it was also announced in the same statement that announced the Spaniard’s departure.

The Terriers game, in which Darren Moore, Xisco’s predecessor, will be the opposition manager, comes on the other side of a two-week international break, so it seems doubtful that Thompson’s acting-in-place reign will last longer than one game on this occasion.

When Tony Pulis was fired in late December 2020, he previously assumed the position and presided over back-to-back victories in his first two games of his 11-league match stint.

Thompson actually had a streak of five victories in his first eight games on Wednesday before suffering a skid of four straight losses and Moore’s eventual arrival. Over the course of the entire season, they only managed to win 12 league games.

Following the anguish of Pulis’ brief tenure, during which he managed the Owls for just 10 league games and secured just one victory, Wednesday began play with a sense of fresh freedom.

The Hillsborough organization is looking for a new manager. However, Owls supporters will hope that history will repeat itself during Thompson’s second stay, even if it is just for one game.
